Billy Woods — Liminal/Tetza

Liminal/Tetza

He says he is from Washington, but in fact he belongs to many more places. Born in the US, raised between Africa, the Caribbean, and New York, the son of a Jamaican intellectual and quasi-revolutionary, Woods carries more stories within him than most people manage to experience in a lifetime.

As the article in the cult BK MAG says - Billy Woods would rather you be a little uncomfortable.

When he stands behind the microphone, he doesn't tell stories about success. He digs. He unearths skeletons. He takes words apart and puts them back together again. He talks about things that others avoid, and finds strange beauty in the familiar.

In the early 2000s, he was active in the underground scene with Super Chron Flight Brothers, a peculiar, intelligent, and occasionally uncomfortable project. Then, in 2012, he released History Will Absolve Me, an album that sounds like a letter thrown into a bottle and set on fire simultaneously.

Next up are Dour Candy with Blockhead, the raw and ironic world of Armand Hammer with Elucid, and a series of projects that build a reputation that cannot be bought—it is earned slowly, in small venues, among people who listen carefully.

In 2025, Woods returns with GOLLIWOG, an album that is not just listened to, but experienced.

This is not just another hip-hop record. It is a movie without a screen. A nightmare with a sense of humor. A parade of shadows featuring zombies, time-traveling cars, creepy dolls, and ghosts from history.

The sound is built with heavy artillery — The Alchemist, EL-P, Kenny Segal, DJ Haram, Shabaka Hutchings, and a bunch of other people who know how to create atmosphere, not just beats.

Next to him stand ELUCID, Cavalier, Bruiser Wolf, Despot, and Yolanda Watson—like voices in a dark corridor, appearing and disappearing.

GOLLIWOG sounds like a black carnival that appeared overnight in a muddy field. The merry-go-rounds are empty. The music is still playing. Someone forgot to turn off the lights.

On April 14, 2026, this world will enter Hall 1 of Toplocentrala, a former power station, a place that knows what it means to bear traces of the past.

Liminal/Tetza presents Billy Woods — as rarely seen live.
