DA FEST 2025: UNI-HYbr:ID

Alva Noto

audiovisual performance

Tickets: 40 BGN presale/50 BGN doors.

UNI-HYbr:ID is the latest audiovisual performance by Alva Noto, merging the sonic worlds of his albums UNIEQAV (2018) and HYbr:ID (2021). While UNIEQAV explores a rhythmic, dancefloor-oriented approach—evolving the conceptual frameworks behind Unitxt and Univrs—HYbr:ID dives into meticulously layered sound design and spatial atmospheres.

Described as 'sonically representing an underwater dive,' UNIEQAV draws from mathematical structures and data systems, while language, spoken word, and DNA inform both the creative process and the resulting sonic landscape. HYbr:ID moves through expansive textures toward more melancholic and introspective terrain.

With UNI–HYbr:ID, these two worlds converge in a singular live experience, where pulse meets abstraction and data merges with emotion.

Carsten Nicolai, born in 1965 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz), lives and works in Berlin. Inspired by scientific reference systems, Nicolai explores mathematical patterns such as grids and codes, error and random structures, and the phenomenon of self-organisation. In doing so, he continually dissolves the boundaries between different artistic genres. Under the pseudonym Alva Noto, he is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary electronic music. His concerts have been presented at renowned venues including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and Tate Modern in London. Nicolai’s wide-ranging musical projects include collaborations with Ryōji Ikeda, Mika Vainio, Iggy Pop, Blixa Bargeld, and Ryūichi Sakamoto. Together with Sakamoto, he composed the score for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Oscar-winning film The Revenant, which was nominated for a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and a Grammy in the Best Original Score category.
