“I disappear
over and
over again
Only to
find myself
exactly
where
I’m supposed to be”

BEFORE DISAPPEARING is a dance piece in intimate connection with music and audience, born out of a desire to open spaces of playful intimacy, where you can dwell and dissolve in ephemerality. You can easily appear and disappear, while at the same time always being here.

BEFORE DISAPPEARING celebrates observation and being seen and felt in all our raw vulnerability, building connections through sensual and delicate interactions. And at the same time, with each breath, movement, and sound, we change and transition into something else. We become more visible, and sometimes we disappear invisibly.

With this dancing, we allow ourselves to occupy space, to express ourselves freely, and reciprocally to create phenomena through movement and dance, moving through our own experiences and dance archives, leaving and erasing traces, touching senses, and even more.

This proposal of a solo dance work is one of the results of longer research, situated under the umbrella of Bodies in pleasure, bodies that care, moving bodies.

Dear Lovers, you know
appearing and disappearing is like coming and going, like being here and there, like ghosting yourself, the holes in a body, like winding and waving, like dancing the past, present, and future, like you and me.
So, melting between past and future, I will dance for you.
I invite you to see me, imagine me, sense me, watch me, criticize me, love me or hate me,
Just be with me, and after all, leave me.
Again and again. Like repetition. Like creating experience. Like a summer love. Like a romance. Like the eis melting in my mouth, like the sweat dropping from the body, like the liquids pouring out of the vagina. Again and again, I will appear and disappear.
Like you,
Like dancing the dancing,
like dancing it again and again, archiving dances in the body, as almost having an affair with all the dances I danced before, affecting the future, and realizing it in the present.
I dance for all of you.
Like thousands of bodies unfolding in front of the gaze, body after body... like chapter after chapter.
Like unfolding and unpacking myself for you.
Like appearing and disappearing
Enjoy!

PHANTOM is the title of a research by Darío Barreto Damas that focuses on the relationship between the figure of the phantom and politics of disidentification, following the lines of the projects "seguir moviendo" and "ES UN NO PARAR," which study the catalysts of a dance that exceeds the body that dances it (rhythm, repetition, feedback, archive, gaze, and voice, among others). Playing with different beats and melodies of music together with Juana La Cubana DJ, and the overlay of shadows and lights, the work situates itself at the intersection of dance, music, and visual experience, constructing a shared phantom body that fades, making space for everything to dance. Underpinning the entire investigation, the pleasure of dancing plays a crucial role.
