Alexander Manuiloff, Bulgaria
Based on a text by writer and playwright Alexander Manuiloff, the play is a situation and design for a theatrical evening, exploring the themes of internal, personal corruption, the important and often invisible decisions that can change the direction of human life. The viewer will witness hesitations, letters, dilemmas, questions, a tangled and multi-layered love story and a small state anti-utopia.
The artists who accepted the challenge to recreate the dramatic atmosphere of the dilemma of making fateful decisions are Vassilia Drebova, Yavor Kostov-Yondin, Emilia Toncheva.
An essential part of the concept of the performance is the possibility for the audience to decide for themselves how they want it all to end. Moreover, the artists have no prior access to the script, and the audience is actively involved in the search for a solution. In this way, the performance becomes an interactive event that effortlessly invites everyone to join in and have their say.
This evening of theatre is one of those that addresses questions of democracy, the potential for solidarity and participation in increasingly isolated, atomized and militarized societies. Also love, violence and serenades.
"- Hello... This is the post office calling: you forgot an envelope."
The text was developed in the framework of the WRITE International Playwriting Residency, Sicily, Italy, July 2018 and was first presented in Romanian at Transit House, Cluj, Romania, 6 Sept. 2019.
Alexander Manuiloff's text is one of the three prize-winning scripts in the recent script competition held by the Capital City, ACT Association for Free Theatre and the Norwegian organization TOU SCENE.
The script competition as well as the realization of the performance are carried out within the project "Establishing RCCA TOPLOCENTRALA as a modern space for art, culture and dialogue", which is implemented with financial support of 199 996,93 EUR, provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. It is implemented by the Capital City Municipality in partnership with Tou Scene Stavanger, Norway and ACT Association for Independent Theatre.
