dance performance
What are the dimensions of social media's influence on artists, and what happens when everyone who presents themselves through the internet is considered an artist? How is contemporary dance changing in an era of manuals, templates, and recycling?
This is a performance that will reinvent itself and the grounds on which it stands each time it is performed. It will consume, revisit, and quote what came before it, while its performers remain in a constant state of uncertainty—negotiating what deserves their attention, and how they should attend to it, in order for the work to come into being.
This is a format destined to fail from the outset, because it will not be recorded and can only be experienced live.
The performance examines contemporary dance—and dance more broadly—through the lens of rapidly shifting trends, the abundance of easily accessible information shaped by market logics, the demand for efficiency and immediate results, and the lingering melancholy that everything seems to have already been invented.
