Circolution 2025: Who are you?

Nicola Fanton

contemporary circus show

Who are You? is a contemporary circus show that talks about the story of a guy who works in a factory, oppressed in a reality where the rhythms of society do not allow him to appreciate this world, and the more the time passes the more difficult it is to escape from this vicious cycle where little by little his mental health is being put to test.

The inertia of routine traps us in a vicious cycle, keeping us in our comfort zone and leaving us alone with the question: Who Are You? This performance delves into the profound journey of self-discovery, challenging the audience to break free from the mundane and embrace the unknown.

Having grown up in a small village where nature was his playground, Nico’s passion for physical movement led him to explore various contexts and places. This relentless search ultimately guided him to the circus, where he found his true calling.

Who Are You? invites you to embark on a journey of introspection and transformation, encouraging us to step out of our comfort zone and rediscover our essence.

The show has three parts, reflecting the worker’s day: morning, afternoon, and night. In the morning, the character will start preparing himself by doing the make-up in front of his mirror preparing to go to work and face his vices for the first time of the journey, finding a bottle of wine. The work segment will use a cyr-wheel to symbolize his routine and emotional struggles with his job. This part will blend cyr-wheel technique and object manipulation to foster connections between the performer and the audience. The final segment will portray his return home, using balanced bottles and a chair, which represent his vulnerabilities. In this last chapter, if possible I will invite the audience to get in the scene asking to bring me the bottles used to mark the space around me, creating an intimate moment while I will walk on bottles. Ending pouring the liquid of the bottle on the floor and walking out the stage.

More recently he has worked with Jorge Lix, Sandra Salomé and Jorge Albuerne. In 2023 he worked with PabloMendezPerformances on their new show “Atempo”. During the last 3 years he performed extensively as a street artist with unicycle, juggling and cyr wheel across Europe. In 2024, he won the competition So Circo with his short version of ‘Who are you’ at Cupula Festival, Portugal.
