ALVA NOTO – HYBR:ID SESSION

Carsten Nicolai

Exhibition

Conceived during lockdown, when live performances were impossible, HYbr:ID Session explores the concept of a performance without stage, audience, or visible performer. Directed by Alva Noto and Krsn Brasko, the film shifts the focus from the artist to the instruments, devices, and visual analyzers themselves.

Here, synthesizers, displays, meters, and detectors become the actual performers, while the camera adopts a microscopic view to reveal processes usually hidden during live concerts. The result is a still life of sound in which technology takes on the role of the body.

The soundtrack of HYbr:ID Session is an autonomous composition derived from Alva Noto’s ongoing HYbr:ID series — a three-part cycle of works exploring heterogeneous compositional methods that fuse geometries, dystopias, and scientific references — oscillating between stylized, dilated rhythms and dreamlike atmospheres shaped by high and low frequencies.Director / art direction: Carsten Nicolai + Krsn Brasko
