Water Walk With Us

The exhibition project Water walk with us deals with themes such as the interrelations between art and pop culture, politics and society, and their influence on our perception, memory and existence, provoked by the direct confrontation with wild nature. The project was launched in 2017, when the artist, on an artist residency at the Canadian Rocky Mountains in Banff National Park, provoked by the local wilderness, experienced a déjà vu and was taken back to her teenage years in the late 1980s and early 1990s, in a time of transformation both personally and socially, landing into Twin Peaks and remembering Heaven Over Berlin, the political chaos and the underground in her beloved Sofia. In her works, she reflects on the healing from the past to be able to understand the present better. In the project Water walk with us, different components intertwine and evoke associations of the past as is and the present that is always in the future. Using photography, video, text and sound, scenes from biographical situations and collective histories are played out in front of the viewer in a poetic, yet analytical and critical way.

In the video work Wahkohtowin, Borjana Ventzislavova collaborates with the artists and musicians Alex Tedlie Stursberg, Graham Kaplan, Katinka Kleijn, Luciane Cardassi, Rebecca Bruton, as well as the polka dancer Shaunna Pierro.
