A performance which explores themes of loneliness, loss, confusion and search for connection. Two lost beings enter a void seemingly without time and space, and there, they search, for some kind of connection, to their own bodies, to each other or to the ground and space they inhabit. In a poetic and a pedestrian way, they seem to have both misplaced their keys and their souls. Unlike their Beckett counterparts, the pair are too anxious to sit around and wait but rather stagger, wrestle and trip through the space, determined to head into the unknown, even if they may need to ‘lose their heads’ in order to find something of more value.
‘It’s existential in a way that’s so playful, it helps me access a feeling of dread but in a way that makes me lean forwards and engage with the ideas’ Joel Gatehouse (Head of BA Acting for stage and screen at Performance Preparation Academy)
'Shifting from frenetic turns and throws to feeble writhing and jerking around, the movement – and aural accompaniment – is at once both exciting and poignant' Reviewed by Melina Block for Resolutions Festival
This piece is a collaboration between performers Marie Chabert, Danny Kearns and composer/musician Thomas Broda and has been performed at Resolution Festival at The Place and Camden Fringe Festival at the Cockpit Theatre, London, in 2023. Having been working together since the pandemic, we have been fed by an interrelation of personal stories, collective traumas, and a sense of questioning and embracing what doesn't make sense in our lives and in the creative process. The work was driven by a constant coming back to 'staying with the unknown' while attempting not to prescribe a singular meaning but to allow something nuanced to emerge. Since we’ve been performing it, it has kept evolving through its meetings with audiences’ imagination and association, allowing us to further unpack and develop it.
Guests will be welcome to stay for an informal discussion with the artists after the show.
This event is hosted by Toplocentrala Centre for Contemporary Arts and organised in partnership with Room Temperature Association.
