Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead

Tom Stoppard

Shakespeare said that life is a stage and we are all actors on it. But if we step outside the cliché, we will see that lately we seem to be just spectators. The grand narrative of today is being told by someone else. And we imagine that our reins are fateful threads of providence that we must trust. Uncritically. Somehow by inertia. What does the moment look like when we can say “No”. Or is it only distinguishable from the distance of time - from the point at which you can only regret not having acted. The question marks have become stunted by abstinence. They have turned into silly pseudo-hypotheses about who we are. In the tragedy of today's chaos, the choice to be free seems like comic pornography. But somehow it is always others who are to blame.

And yet, it seems to us, we have a chance. Or maybe it is just luck. If that is the word we are looking for.
